7 key characteristics from 5 references
Layout – All of these websites include a header (located at either the top or left hand side of page), navigation bar (commonly underneath the header or above content), content and information (underneath the navigation bar or in the middle of the page), links (either navigation or extras at the bottom), some sort of motion graphics and great use of colour. This is the way I am to be heading in a similar type of layout to all of the 5 sites chosen.
Navigation – Includes an home link then an about page or info page. Next to that will be bands or line up page that will give a complete list of who is playing at the festival. The Used site includes shows, photos and biographies. Other page requirements may include a tickets page, contact us page, a news page and a mailing list page. All are important to a festival site and need to be considered.
Logo – All of the pages listed include a visually appealing logo for the site, especially the Big Day Out logo. Most are photographical or vector based designs and can really make a website stand out from others.
Content/Information – All sites require factual relevant information that may include dates, venues, how to get there, bands, photos, tickets, sponsors, merchandise and so on.
Motion Graphics – Most of these sites include motion graphics of some form. This would be great to include and gives the audience something to occupy them when waiting for things to load especially in the header.
Colours/fonts – Colours and fonts all have some relevance to the content and fit in well with the designs.
Simplicity – All websites are fairly simple in the design aspect. Some are more than others. I feel this is a great design characteristic to consider. Most professional websites are fairly simple and don’t have too much going on. Especially the Newtons Playground site, everything fits in well and there are no scrolling bars.
